The North Coast - Scotland Motorcycle tours our ADVENTURE
The North Coast 500 (NC500), often referred to as Scotland’s Route 66, is one of the most spectacular motorcycle journeys in the world. This unforgettable adventure takes riders through more than 500 miles of breathtaking Highland scenery, combining dramatic coastlines, towering mountains, ancient castles, hidden glens, and some of the finest riding roads Britain has to offer.
Our journey begins in Dumfries before heading north into the heart of the Highlands, where every day delivers a new landscape and a new adventure. From the mysterious waters of Loch Ness to the rugged cliffs of the north coast, the NC500 showcases Scotland at its wild and untamed best.
For motorcyclists, this route is pure riding heaven. Twisting mountain passes, sweeping coastal roads, and remote single-track sections combine to create a ride that is both challenging and immensely rewarding. Few roads are as iconic as the legendary Bealach na Bà, a dramatic mountain pass with hairpin bends and breathtaking views that rival some of the finest alpine roads in Europe. Along the way, you’ll ride beside sparkling lochs, through ancient pine forests, and across vast open moorlands where red deer often outnumber people
Scotland’s Culture & Landscapes
Embark on a North Coast 500 motorbike tour where every mile tells a story. From ancient castles perched on windswept cliffs to charming fishing villages steeped in history, the route immerses riders in Scotland’s rich cultural heritage. Along the way, you’ll encounter landscapes shared over millennia, white sandy beaches that rival the tropics, dramatic sea stacks like the Old Man of Stoer, and the other worldly beauty of Smoo Cave – making every ride a journey of discovery and awe.
Bealach na Ba
One of the most thrilling sections of the NC500 motorbike tour, this twisting single-track road on the Applecross Peninsula delivers heart-pounding switchbacks and stunning panoramic views. It’s a must for riders seeking adrenaline alongside breathtaking Highland scenery.
Dunrobin Castle
A fairytale-like landmark dating back to the 13th century, Dunrobin Castle is renowned for its majestic gardens and sweeping views over the Moray Firth. This historic stop adds a touch of culture and elegance to your motorbike adventure through Northern Scotland.
John O’ Groats
Famous as the northernmost point of mainland Britain, John O’ Groats is an iconic stop on the NC500 motorbike tour. It’s the perfect spot for a quick photo and a moment to reflect on the epic journey through Scotland’s Highlands.
Durness
This scenic village is home to the stunning Balnakeil Beach and the remarkable Smoo Cave, where dramatic coastal cliffs meet cavernous formations. Riders on the NC500 motorbike tour can experience both the raw power and beauty of Scotland’s northern coat.
Lochinver
Nestled among the rugged Assynt mountain, Lochinver is the ideal place to take a break, enjoy some Scotland’s finest pies and soak in the spectacular surrounding scenery before continuing the adventure.

Trip Advisor Reviews
Scotland NC500
RAMS is owned and operated by husband and wife team Dave and Leah Lee. They have the perfect and rare combination of being both relaxed and easy going but with a minute eye for detail and organisation.
Dave plans and leads the rides giving stops for historical points of interest and rests, Leah managed the administrative tasks and drove the support van but she did so much more behind the scenes whilst we were on the bikes.
It is was also a great comfort to see the significant efforts put in to security and safety and to know that Dave is also a very highly qualified paramedic with a substantial kit in the van, fortunately we didn’t need it.
Biking in Scotland along the NC500
My father and I travelled with RAMS Adventures on their 2024 Ireland tour.
I am certain we will join a future tour and indeed apart from myself all the other riders were repeat customers, some several times over.
Scottish bike trip
Our tour included everything in the price except fuel and beer. Literally everything is taken care of by Dave and Leah with quiet efficiency.
An excellent tour company and fantastic tour of Scotland.
NC500
Between them Dave and Leah make the trip very easy for the customer from taking care of tolls, ferry tickets, transporting luggage, providing fresh food and beverages en-route to checking everyone in to the hotels and often even putting the luggage in the rooms before we got off the bikes.
