Nepal - The Himalayan Challenge - Rally Raid Motorcycle tours our ADVENTURE

The Himalayan Challenge is not a tour – it is an adventure.

This unique 13-day Rally Raid takes riders deep into the remote and unexplored regions of Western Nepal, far beyond the tourist trails and well-travelled routes. Designed for experienced adventure motorcyclists, the challenge combines navigation, exploration and off-road riding in one of the most spectacular landscapes on Earth.

Each morning, riders receive a map, a route briefing and the location of the day’s checkpoint. There are no groups to follow and no lead guide to chase. The challenge is to navigate your own way across mountains, valleys, hidden villages and remote tracks to reach the next destination before nightfall.

This is not a race and there are no prizes for speed. Success comes from good navigation, sound decision-making,  and a willingness to embrace the unknown.

For those seeking more than just another motorcycle tour, The Himalayan Challenge offers something increasingly rare in today’s world: genuine adventure, self-discovery and the freedom to find your own way through the Himalayas.

Kathmandu to Pokhara

The adventure begins in Nepal’s vibrant capital, Kathmandu, where ancient temples, bustling streets and centuries of history provide the perfect introduction to this remarkable country.

After an evening soaking up the atmosphere of Thamel, riders head west towards Pokhara. Nestled beneath the towering Annapurna range and beside the tranquil waters of Phewa Lake, Pokhara marks the gateway to the Himalayas and the start of the real challenge ahead.

Into the Wild Wild West – off the map

Leaving the tourist trail behind, the Rally Raid ventures deep into the remote wilderness of Western Nepal. Riding through Tallu Bagar, Jumla and beyond, participants navigate rugged mountain tracks, remote valleys and forgotten roads that rarely feature on traditional itineraries.

This is where the true spirit of the Himalayan Challenge comes alive, with every day presenting new navigation decisions, breathtaking scenery and a genuine sense of exploration.

Rara Lake and the Roof of Nepal

One of the defining moments of the expedition is reaching the spectacular Rara Lake, Nepal’s largest and most beautiful alpine lake. Surrounded by pristine forests and snow-capped peaks, its crystal-clear waters provide a stunning contrast to the rugged terrain travelled to get there.

The journey continues south through the mountains towards Baglung and back to Pokhara, delivering an unforgettable finale to a ride that showcases some of the most remote and spectacular landscapes in the Himalayas.

Accommodation For our Nepal - The Himalayan Challenge - Rally Raid Motorcycle tour

Accommodation throughout the Himalayan Challenge has been carefully selected to reflect the spirit of the adventure. Riders can expect a mixture of comfortable hotels, family-run guesthouses and remote lodges, each chosen for their character, hospitality and location.

In Kathmandu and Pokhara, accommodation is of a good tourist standard, providing comfortable rooms, excellent facilities and the opportunity to relax before and after the challenge. As the rally heads deeper into Western Nepal, accommodation becomes more authentic and reflects the remoteness of the regions being explored.

Some nights will be spent in simple mountain lodges and local guesthouses where the welcome is warm, the food is hearty and the views are unforgettable. While facilities may be more basic in remote areas, they offer a genuine insight into life in the Himalayas and form an important part of the adventure.

Every evening provides a safe and comfortable place to rest, enjoy a hot meal, share stories from the day’s navigation challenge and prepare for the next stage of the rally.

This is an expedition, not a luxury tour. The rewards come from the incredible locations, authentic experiences and the camaraderie built along the journey.

Comfortable where possible. Authentic where necessary. Memorable everywhere.

All inclusive Motor bike tour Nepal - The Himalayan Challenge - Rally Raid Cuisine

breakfast

Breakfast during your Himalayan Challenge is simple, hearty, and always served hot — perfect fuel for a day in the Himalaya. Most mornings include freshly prepared eggs (fried, scrambled, or omelette), warm bread or chapati, and sometimes a comforting bowl of noodle or garlic soup, especially at higher altitudes where it helps with acclimatisation. You’ll often enjoy tea or fresh coffee alongside your meal, taken in small mountain lodges or family-run tea houses as the sun rises over the peaks.

LUNCH

Lunch is usually enjoyed at roadside lodges or local guesthouses along our motorcycle challenge route. A popular choice is a fragrant rice dish such as chicken or vegetable biryani, served with seasonal vegetables and pickles. In more traditional settings, you may enjoy a lighter Nepali meal of rice, lentils, and curried vegetables. Meals are freshly cooked and satisfying — designed to keep you energised without slowing you down for the afternoon’s ride.

EVENING MEAL

Dinner is the main meal of the day and a chance to relax with the group after an epic day riding through Nepal. Most evenings feature a traditional Nepali Thali or the classic Dal Bhat — steamed rice served with lentil soup, seasonal vegetable curries, pickles, and sometimes chicken or goat. Dal Bhat is unlimited in many tea houses, meaning you can refill as much as you like — ideal after long mountain riding days.

Simple, nourishing, and packed with flavour, these meals are an authentic part of the Nepal motorcycle Rally Raid Challenge with Rams Adventure.

The Transport during our Nepal - The Himalayan Challenge - Rally Raid Motorbike Tour

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450

The Vibe: The original Himalayan’s smarter, stronger, high-altitude evolution.
Type: Adventure/Dual-Sport.
Best For: Riders who want serious touring comfort with real off-road ability, especially for Nepal’s highways and Himalayan trails.

Key Info:
The 450cc liquid-cooled Sherpa engine is a major upgrade over the old 411—more power, smoother cruising, and better overtaking on highways like the Prithvi or East-West. It handles altitude far better thanks to fuel injection and improved engine tuning.

The suspension is long-travel and confidence-inspiring for rough terrain—ideal for rocky climbs, river crossings, and broken rural roads. It’s heavier than a lightweight dual-sport, but much more stable for long-distance touring with luggage. Switchable ABS is useful for dirt descents.

Nepal Context:
This bike fits Nepal extremely well. Each bike will have a tracker module fitted to the bike which will allow us to monitor progress throughout the Himalayan Motorcycle Challenge in Nepal.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 411

The Vibe: A simple, rugged mountain workhorse.
Type: Adventure/Dual-Sport.
Best For: Riders in Nepal who want a dependable, comfortable bike for highways and rough backroads.

Key Info:
The 411cc air-oil cooled engine focuses on torque over speed—great for hill climbs and loaded touring. The long-travel suspension handles broken roads and gravel well, though the bike feels heavy on tight trails. Built more for steady adventure riding than aggressive off-road.

Nepal Context:
Very common across Nepal,  geared slightly different to the 450cc making it a bike with plenty of torque. Complete with a GPS tracker.
