Itinerary For Motor Bike Tours in KARST RIDER VIETNAM

Day 29/09/2026 Home → Hanoi

With packed bags and passport in hand, you leave home to head to Hanoi in Vietnam, the gateway to your adventure.

Day 30/09/2026 → Hanoi

Welcome to Hanoi, the vibrant capital of Vietnam, where centuries of history blend seamlessly with the energy of modern-day life. Our adventure begins in the heart of the city’s famous Old Quarter, a fascinating maze of narrow streets, quirky tall buildings, bustling markets, and endless streams of scooters.

This evening, we’ll gather for a welcome dinner where you’ll meet your fellow riders, guides, support crew, and the RAMS Adventures team as we prepare for the incredible journey ahead.

Day 01/10/2026 Hanoi → Lao Cai

After breakfast, the day is yours to explore at your own pace. Alternatively, join us for a guided tour of Hanoi’s fascinating history and culture.

We’ll visit the remains of the famous B-52 bomber resting in Huu Tiep Lake, explore the Vietnam Military History Museum, and discover the sobering history of the infamous Hoa Lo Prison, better known as the “Hanoi Hilton”.

Along the way, we’ll stop for some of Hanoi’s finest street food, including the city’s Bun Cha, followed by a traditional Vietnamese egg coffee at the legendary Train Street. After an early dinner, we make our way to Hanoi Railway Station and board the overnight sleeper train bound for Lao Cai, close to the Chinese border.

Settle into your berth and drift off to sleep as the train heads north through the Vietnamese countryside.

Day 02/10/2026 Lao Cai → Sa Pa Village

120 km

Time to get on the bikes and start the adventure. We ride out of Lao Cai and soon turn off on to the mountain trails. Small broken roads and stone paths take us high with our first chance to see the scale of the surrounding landscape.

Lunch at Ta Van, but check out the minority hill tribe people. View the Sa Pa pass, a ribbon of tarmac draped over the mountains with incredible switchbacks and elevation changes and then ride it.

Tonight we stay in Sa Pa Village, a small trading post with many markets and tourist shops to explore.

Day 03/10/2026 Sa Pa Village → Bac Ha

200 km

Leaving the mountain town of Sa Pa behind, we descend on winding roads back to Lao Cai, Vietnam’s bustling border town with China. After a coffee stop overlooking the border crossing, you’ll witness the fascinating daily trade that takes place here, with locals transporting goods across the frontier to supply the vibrant local markets.

The route twists through remote valleys and climbs back into the hills, offering spectacular scenery and an authentic glimpse of rural Vietnamese life.

Later, we’ll cool off with a swim beneath a remote waterfall hidden deep in the mountains, the perfect spot for a refreshing break and, of course, some unforgettable photographs. Tonight we stay in Bac Ha, nestled in the mountains

Day 04/10/2026 Bac Ha → Ha Giang

160 km

Today is all about adventure. Expect a thrilling mix of cascading waterfalls, endless switchbacks, dramatic mountain scenery, and the occasional heart-stopping drop-off as we make our way towards Ha Giang, the gateway to Vietnam’s legendary northern mountains.

The riding is as varied as the landscape itself, with smooth winding tarmac giving way to broken roads, remote hill tracks, and sections that will keep even experienced riders fully engaged. Around every corner lies another breathtaking view, making this one of the most memorable riding days of the tour.

Day 05/10/2026 Ha Giang → Dong Van

165 km

Towering limestone peaks cast long shadows across the road as we ride deeper into the spectacular landscapes of northern Vietnam. Following winding valleys and riverside roads, today’s route delivers some of the finest scenery of the entire tour as we make our way to the frontier town of Dong Van.

This marks the beginning of the famous Happiness Road, better known to travellers as the legendary Ha Giang Loop. Built through some of Vietnam’s most challenging terrain, the road snakes through dramatic mountain passes, remote villages, and breathtaking karst landscapes that seem to stretch endlessly towards the horizon.

This evening, we experience one of Vietnam’s favourite social meals: Hot Pot. Gathered around a small cooker in the centre of the table, we’ll cook fresh meats, vegetables, and noodles in a simmering broth while sharing stories from the day’s ride.

Day 06/10/2026 Dong Van → Bao Lac

160 km

As the journey continues, you’ll notice the mountains begin to change shape, with enormous limestone boulders rising from the valleys in striking symmetry as we weave around their bases. It’s a surreal and stunning landscape that feels almost sculpted by nature.

For those with a head for heights, today also includes the famous Sky Road goat track – a narrow, exposed mountain trail offering some of the most dramatic riding of the entire route.

Later, a small off-road trail leads us to the Bamboo Boat crossing, where a local ferries us across the river on a traditional raft-like boat. From here, we continue on into the small market town of Bao Lac, a remote but welcoming stop deep in the northern highlands.

Day 07/10/2026 Bao Lac → Ba Be National Park

180 km

A

After breakfast it’s straight onto the bikes and into the spectacular Bao Lac Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on all sides. The road winds deeper into the gorge before reaching a dramatic sixteen-turn switchback pass that tests both rider skill and nerve in equal measure.

From here, switchback roads and mountain tracks continue towards Ba Be National Park, a region of lush jungle, lakes, and hidden valleys. This evening, we are joined by local villagers for a traditional dance performance, offering a rare glimpse into local culture. If you’re feeling brave, you may even be invited to join in and take part in the celebration.

Day 08/10/2026 Ba-Be National Park → Day Off

A more relaxed start awaits in Ba Be National Park. Today can be a lazy day spent unwinding by the lake, or you can join us for a gentle boat trip to explore the hidden bays, waterfalls, and limestone caves that make this area so special. This also includes a visit to the hidden Hua Ma Cave, a limestone cave that we can take the boat into, home to thousands of insect eating Horseshoe Bats.

Before setting off, enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, fresh fruit, and honey served with views across the tranquil waters of Ba Be Lake, the perfect way to ease into a new day in this peaceful corner of northern Vietnam.

Day 09/10/2026 Ba-Be Lake → Hanoi

160 km

Bac

The final day of riding takes us from the tranquillity of Ba Be National Park back towards the energy and chaos of Hanoi. After breakfast, we fire up the bikes for one last time and begin our journey south, leaving behind the limestone peaks, jungle-clad valleys, and mirror-like lakes of the northern highlands.

The route unfolds as a classic transition from remote wilderness to urban life. Quiet mountain roads and sweeping countryside tracks gradually give way to busier provincial routes, passing through small farming villages where daily life continues much as it has for generations. It’s a final chance to soak up the rhythms of rural Vietnam from the saddle.

Day 10/10/2026 Hanoi → UK

Hanoi marks the end of an unforgettable journey through northern Vietnam’s most spectacular riding terrain, a final contrast between the peaceful mountains we’ve come from and the vibrant city we return to, carrying memories of an extraordinary adventure on two wheels.

Riders depart at their own pace, heading to the airport or continuing their travels, taking with them the stories, friendships, and experiences from an unforgettable ride through Vietnam’s northern mountains.

Trip Advisor Reviews

Exceeded all expectations, a true adventure (Oct 2024)

Exceeded all expectations. One of the best tours I’ve been on. Very professional yet friendly tour team. Everything covered from the very start to the end with some very nice unexpected surprises during the tour. Will definitely consider another tour with them in the future.

Unbelievable life experience  (Sep 2024)

I have just finished the Vietnam Explorer with my son. We have had the time of our lives, the views, the locations, the experience. Dave and his team have been unbelievable from booking all the way through to the riding. Nothing troubles him — the typhoon, no problem, the land slides, no problem. I cannot recommend RAMS enough and will no doubt book through them for other adventures.

Happy Water! — Hanoi to HCM (Mar 2024)

The Hanoi–HCM trip offered everything from great accommodation and food to incredible varied terrains for motorbiking. Dave and Leah ensured everyone was taken care of and having paramedics onsite offered added reassurance. Suitable for both novice and experienced riders — it ticked all the boxes.

Vietnam March 2024

From the start Leah organised all the best flight times which put my mind at rest. From arrival, the organisation, food and accommodation was exceptional. The Vietnam trip took me to all the sights I’d wanted to see from the Vietnamese war and the guide from Dave and the team was superb. I would confidently recommend RAMS to anyone — a trip of a lifetime.

The Transport during our KARST RIDER VIETNAM Motorbike Tour

Kawasaki KLX 250

  • The Vibe: The CRF’s “sportier, grittier” cousin.

  • Type: Dual-Sport.

  • Best For: Riders who want a bit more “snap” and better stock suspension.

  • Key Info: Generally feels more “dirt-focused” than the Honda. The suspension is adjustable and stiffer, meaning it handles aggressive off-roading better without bottoming out.

  • Vietnam Context: A bit rarer than the Hondas. While highly reliable, you might have to wait a day for specific Kawasaki parts if you’re deep in the mountains compared to the ubiquitous Honda.

Honda CRF 250L

  • The Vibe: The reliable “Swiss Army Knife” of Vietnam.

  • Type: Dual-Sport.

  • Best For: All-around adventure. It’s the most popular 250cc rental in the country for a reason.

  • Key Info: It has a very linear power delivery, making it forgiving for intermediate riders. The suspension is famously soft (plush for potholes, but can dive under heavy braking).

  • Vietnam Context: Parts are available in almost every major province. If you break a lever in a remote village, a mechanic can likely find a fix.

Honda CRF Rally

  • The Vibe: The “Mini-Adventurer” with a Dakar look.

  • Type: Adventure / Rally.

  • Best For: Long-distance comfort and pillion passengers.

  • Key Info: It’s essentially a CRF 250L with a larger fuel tank (10.1L vs 7.7L), a windscreen, and a much wider, more cushioned seat. It features frame-mounted passenger footpegs and a sturdier subframe, making it the only real choice on this list if you are riding two-up.

  • Vietnam Context: Great for the long coastal stretches where wind protection matters, but it is noticeably heavier than the base L model.

Kawasaki KLX 230 (Reduced Height / ‘S’ Model)

  • The Vibe: The “Confidence Builder.”

  • Type: Trail / Dual-Sport.

  • Best For: Shorter riders or beginners who want to be able to touch the ground.

  • Key Info: It uses an air-cooled engine (simpler, less to go wrong) and has a significantly lower seat height (approx. 830mm vs the 880mm+ on the 250s).

  • Vietnam Context: Perfect for the tight, technical “goat tracks” in the North where being able to “dab” your foot down can prevent a fall into a rice paddy.
